The Truth of Life

Standard

heart-cloudThings have been kind of sad lately. A deep kind of sadness that just sits inside my tummy and at times I cry, but at other times I just feel really, really sad. I think it’s called grief. And I think I’ve been smacked in the face with it a bit lately.

The past two weeks have been tough. I’ve had to farewell two of the most precious ‘older’ women in my life; my beloved and beautiful-spirited, Aunt, and my most treasured and sweet, Nan. (I dare not say ‘elderly’ as I know that they would both give me a clip beside the ear despite the fact that they have about 40 and 50 years on me, respectively.)

The Greatest Collection of All

Standard

ChineseFriendshipI don’t really know how it happened. Or when it happened. It just seems to have happened. And it’s interesting, because I wouldn’t ever say I am a collector of sorts or a hoarder, but it seems over the thirty odd years of my life I have managed to collect something quite incredible. Quite wonderful. Quite exquisite, even.

No, it’s not a stamp collection or a priceless array of gems. It is something even more valuable. It seems that I have undoubtedly THE greatest collection of friends in the world. I suppose it’s only by my own decree, but at the end of the day, ‘tis only oneself which needs to believe one’s friends are the greatest, isn’t it?

Thirteen Lessons from MMXIII

Standard

screw you 20132013 was without doubt one of the most difficult of my 32 years and, to be honest, at times I didn’t think I’d get to the end in tact. However, as I’m writing this it appears I have made it and, I must say, I’m excited about the new year and the possibilities of adventure and magic that it may bring. Excited way more than usual about a new year.

Throughout life we learn lots of things but it’s usually when things are toughest that we learn the most. We learn about ourselves, our loved ones and life in general. With this in mind, I wondering if I’m close to being a genius now after this past year. Hahaha. 2013 tried it’s darnedest to knock the stuffing out of me, but I not only managed to walk into the sunrise of 2014, I did so with an armful of new knowledge. Here is just some of it what I’ve learnt…

It’s Just One Foot After the Other

Standard

Not really sure who coined the term ‘fun run’ but I’d like to officially say s/he is a goose. I can think of at least a dozen other adjectives to describe running and fun is certainly not one of them. (No one is really smiling during the race like these kids in this photo!) And after running my first 10kms on the weekend I feel I’m qualified to comment on the subject.

I heart books

Standard

I have a confession to make. For those of you that don’t know I’m a total and utter book worm. Crazy about books. To the point where one just never seems to be enough. I can easily have two or three books on the go. And sometimes that’s not even enough. I blame my Mum for this ‘problem’ for she read books or made up stories for me in bed each night as far back as I can remember.

I love most everything about books. Especially older, pre-loved ones. I love their fragrance. It’s like all the time of readers gone by has been captured in amongst the pages and exudes out every time the book is opened thereafter.

Sun + Rain = Radiant Rainbow

Standard

Being in a sub-tropical part of the country, (I live on the Gold Coast in Australia for those that don’t know) we can often have a lovely sunny day end with darkness, clouds and thunder. The juxtaposition of the two is nothing but beautiful. Mother Nature at her best and worst all in the one place, on the one day.

The image below shows this natural contrast. A sight that is not so often seen in many places, but quite readily where I live.

Have a Merry Christmas, Indeed!

Standard

With only one sleep to go until the big C day and understandably a lot of pressure is in the air and stress levels are high, I thought I’d share a few festive moments with you to help get you into the spirit giggling.

Saddy Claus

Everyone knows the tradition of the Santa photo. And everyone knows there are many photos taken with crying children. Well how about this picture? Apparently, Santa gets stressed too! I really hope Mum and Dad didn’t have to pay for this – considering Santa is horrified too!
